I’m actually really impressed by this。 I thought it would be tech-driven and amoral， but it’s a strong 3。5-4 with quite a strong moral core， and I will be pushing everyone I know （across the political spectrum） to read this。 It really feels extremely bipartisan （or poly-partisan， if you will） which is great。 It’s also extremely empathetic and upholds the rights of poor people to life and living， and this is so rare to me in first-world climate writing。 I wish he could have cited some Southern ec I’m actually really impressed by this。 I thought it would be tech-driven and amoral， but it’s a strong 3。5-4 with quite a strong moral core， and I will be pushing everyone I know （across the political spectrum） to read this。 It really feels extremely bipartisan （or poly-partisan， if you will） which is great。 It’s also extremely empathetic and upholds the rights of poor people to life and living， and this is so rare to me in first-world climate writing。 I wish he could have cited some Southern ecologists， but I do think his principles and heart are probably in the right place。 If you had to read only one climate book， I would really recommend this。 Bill Gates emphasises the importance of equity and of the different responsibilities that nations have。 This isn’t anything new in itself， but I’m just impressed and won over by the fact that an industry leader with an actual say in things acknowledges this。 He also cites various global examples of ‘middle income nations’ and others， which I enjoyed， and which I think are very good。 I think he should cite more。 I don’t fully agree with what he said on agriculture， but that’s a minor thing。 Bill Gates， if you’re reading this， please remember to urge your friends to fund more research in soil microbiology and look into indigenous and rural methods of farming that have worked for thousands of years。 Genetic engineering is good and all， but farmers have crossbred seeds on their own for thousands of years， and patents on genetically modified seeds are devastating for farmers who collect and share seeds （as they should）。 I’m glad to hear he divested of his fossil investments。 This makes this book much more credible to me。 At times， this book feels PR-ey （“I don’t know anyone who has invested as much in direct air capture as I have”） but I’ll close one eye and let it slide。 It’s still a very strong book overall， and I think if more CEOs and investors read this we would be in a better place。 。。。more

This is an easy to read introduction to climate change。 Mr。 Bill Gates also deals with solutions and things government and private institutions can do to reach closer to the zero emissions target。 In the end this book puts climate change as a problem for everyone to solve。 This is good book to start with for anyone unaware about climate change。

Putting any controversies aside， this book fell a bit flat for me。 I think it’s a nice “101” type of book for people unfamiliar with the topic but if you read climate change related news and are paying attention to this anyway， you won’t find much that is new。

My opinion of the content changes throughout。 I suppose working working sustainability within a large PLC company gives me a unique perspective on these problems and solutions compared to if I didn’t work in the industry。 It annoyed me slightly that he didn’t focus on reducing our usage as the first hierarchy stage but focused most of his energy on creating more green energy。 Meaning there was actually very little in there about what you could do。 It focused mainly on governments， companies and My opinion of the content changes throughout。 I suppose working working sustainability within a large PLC company gives me a unique perspective on these problems and solutions compared to if I didn’t work in the industry。 It annoyed me slightly that he didn’t focus on reducing our usage as the first hierarchy stage but focused most of his energy on creating more green energy。 Meaning there was actually very little in there about what you could do。 It focused mainly on governments， companies and technology - which of course is important but to grab the reader and engage with them it’s usually good to know how they could also reduce their consumption etc。 My copy’s format of numbers throughout the whole book was off and I wasn’t able view any of the graphs or charts， which was a little annoying。 On balance I’m going to rate this one a 3/5， if you wanted to get up to speed with the situation this would be a mostly factual and interesting book to do this with。 However， I did not love it！ 。。。more
